Special Message Regarding COVID-19

On behalf of the American Cancer Society, our Coaches vs. Cancer committee and Coach Mike Brey, we are writing to make you aware that we are taking the COVID-19 virus very seriously. There is no higher priority than the safety of our community, volunteers and staff.  We are closely monitoring the situation and consistently reviewing the guidance of our federal, state and local health authorities to inform our course of actions. During this unprecedented time of change, we want to be there for you in any way possible. The American Cancer Society is available 24/7 at 800-227-2345 with cancer information and resources.

Cancer doesn’t stop and neither will those who are fighting cancer.  For a little bit of encouragement, let’s take a peek into the lab of cancer researcher, Laurie Littlepage, at Harper Cancer Research Institute, on the campus of the University of Notre Dame, where research is still very much underway.  Funding from the American Cancer Society & our Coaches vs. Cancer events supports Littlepage and her research team as they study a form of breast cancer that is resistant to endocrine therapy. This resistance accounts for some of the deadliest forms of breast cancer. By researching genes that can cause a breast tumor to develop resistance to endocrine therapy, she aims to understand how this resistance develops, and then to develop new therapies that overcome drug-resistance, in turn, helping improve the survival rate.  We all know that it’ll take a team effort to end this disease, so let’s not stop until that happens.

We look forward to a time when we can all gather together again as a community to fight this disease, and to celebrate our 20th anniversary! For now, I ask you to save the following dates – join me on Monday, August 3 for our Night of the Stars, and Tuesday, August 4 for the much-anticipated Coaches vs. Cancer Golf Classic.  Please keep an eye on our Celebration of Hope website, where the most current information will be posted.  In the meantime, stay healthy and GO IRISH!
